Rome - “24-hour strike in Italian ports, Friday 15 December.” The strike was called jointly by Filt-Cgil, Fit-Cisl and Uiltrasporti because of “the legislative short-circuit that is undermining the measures to relaunch labour in the ports, part of the so-called “port corrective” which in turn “introduces new amendments to Legislative Decree 169/2016 on the reform of the ports.”

The three trade union organisations are asking the government to “resolve the legislative bottleneck and resume the good work on the text of the corrective in the Chamber and Senate committees.” According to a press release, “After the revision of Law 84/94 through the enactment of Decree 169/16, the Italian port system requires flexible structural instruments that can take action to support and oversee the processes and policies that are in place. This is necessary because of the new challenges that have resulted from shipping companies’ entry into the ownership of terminals, from the concentration in the market and from the increasing size of ships, from the automation of port operations, which is becoming more and more common.”
