Genoa - After eight months, the results of the agreement that Maersk Italia signed with the trade union representatives to regulate smart working in their Italian offices are positive. “It is - explains Daniele Gadaleta, head of maritime agencies and freight forwarders of the Filt-Cgil union - of the first trade union agreement of this type for maritime agencies”. Smart working is defined in Italy by Law 81 of 2017, the so-called Jobs Act of self-employed workers. «The activation of smart working - says Gadaleta - involves two elements. There must be a very strong mutual trust between the subordinate worker and the coordinator. The coordinator must be able to motivate people and monitor goals. Secondly, it takes the company’s commitment to provide the necessary equipment. Maersk provides employees with corporate smartphones and laptops, equipped with a data protection system ».
The two hundred employees of Maersk Italy, according to the agreement, have the opportunity to work from home for four days a month. This possibility is extended to ten days a month for the women who have given birth. In addition, employees with a severe need for temporary assistance to a relative or related may request up to 7 days per month. The union cites research according to which smart working would increase company productivity by 15 percent, reducing the rate of absenteeism by 20 percent.
