Genoa - The Voltri Pra’ VTE Terminal is continuing its plan to improve operating efficiency and environmental sustainability. A new project will replace the old diesel-fuelled cranes with new electric models. The electrification of the cargo area is a project that has recently ramped up construction work to upgrade the electrical cabins and the first installations of 6 kilovolt APS sockets, which will be used to power 21 new wheeled electric cranes. Produced by ZPMC, the electric cranes will arrive in September 2018, and after three months of commissioning, will come into full operation in January 2019. The electrical current and the connection to the Terminal’s computer network travel on a cable that winds and unwinds depending on the crane’s operational movements. In particular, the connection to the TOS, the Terminal’s central computer system, will allow for an important development in the second phase: remote guidance.
