Naples-based Grimaldi announces new investments

Napoli - The new ships, which will require an investment of around €1 billion, will reduce emissions by half, while doubling their capacity, compared with the ones currently in use.

Napoli - Speaking at a conference organized by the Port System Authority of the Ionian Sea at Taranto, Emanuele Grimaldi, the managing director of the Naples-based shipping group, announced that the company plans to place orders for around ten new ro-pax/ro-ro units. The new ships, which will require an investment of around €1 billion, will reduce emissions by half, while doubling their capacity, compared with the ones currently in use. The new ships, said Grimaldi, “will have very innovative features, they can carry twice the cargo, while contributing, we’re estimating, fifty percent fewer emissions than our existing ships, which already have low emissions.” “We’ve already committed €1 billion for our fleet’s 120 vessels. We’re now expecting a tenfold increase in our turnover, our business has truly taken off, beyond our wildest expectation.”
