Piombino (Livorno) - The Onorato Armatori group announced that from the start of October not only will its freight line be restored, but that it will also include a passenger link, in line with the group’s repeatedly expressed intentions following the temporary suspension of the all-cargo link between that Tuscan port and Olbia.
The move, which sees Moby and Tirrenia engaged in a common strategy, aims at both generating new inbound and outbound traffic, and at alleviating issues around seasonality of tourism to Sardinia.
“We realize that Piombino,” says Achille Onorato, CEO of Onorato Armatori group, “has been continually impacted by too many unfulfilled promises. Our group is not one to shy away from putting its money where its mouth is. We stated our intention the day following the temporary suspension of the cargo link, and we’re confirming it again today with this decision; Piombino will have a link with Olbia, with a ship capable of transporting not only goods but also passengers, alongside the two additional daily sailings from Livorno towards the port, in which Moby has decided to invest. With this decision we’re taking a further step towards meeting our main goal, the lengthening of the low-cost fares season, not only departing from Livorno but also from Piombino, as with this new service it will be possible to reach Olbia taking advantage of special promotions.”
