Viareggio - The leisure shipbuilding sector is among those with the highest growth rate in the Italian economy. The value of new builds in 2017 amounted to 2.3 billion euro, with a growth of 14%. This is the most important figure that emerged from a presentation by Market Monitor, developed by Nautica Italiana in collaboration with Deloitte, presented as part of the VYR, Versilia Yachting Rendez-Vous, which from May 10th to the 13th saw 370 exhibitors gather in Viareggio.
“The growth of the Italian yachting market,” said Deloitte Financial Advisory Italy president, Luca Petroni, “is in line with what was presented one year ago at the Munich Motor Show. Domestic demand has reached its highest level since 2012.”
“The Italian leisure shipbuilding industry in the first quarter of 2018 has grown by 9%, and the projections for the year are 12-15%”, added Tommasi Nastasi, a partner at Deloitte.
T he biggest contribution comes from the inboard motor segment worth 2 billion euro, representing 86.2% of the leisure shipbuilding manufacturing. Piedmont, Emilia Romagna, Liguria, Tuscany and Marche are the Italian regions with the highest concentration of leisure boating manufacturing.
