Rimorchiatori Riuniti to seek new partners

Genoa - A London-based private equity venture appears to be high on the list, and is preparing to present an offer as early as the end of this month.

Genoa - Tugboat Group Rimorchiatori Riuniti could soon admit new members. According to sources familiar with the matter, certain foreign funds interested in investing in the tugboat sector appear to have opened discussions with top managers of the Genoese tugboat firm in order to assess a possible acquisition of a minority stake - between 25 and 35 per cent of the company. A London-based private equity venture appears to be high on the list, and is preparing to present an offer as early as the end of this month. Discussions have been moving forward over the past weeks, even though nothing at the moment appears certain. The group, headed by the Delle Piane and the Gavarone families, is currently the largest operator in the sector, not just in Italy but also across the Mediterranean Sea.
