Lecco - British Steel is expanding its activities in the European railway sector by opening a new logistics centre in Italy for the production of long length rails. The company - a key supplier of Italy’s state rail operator Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI) - has just inaugurated a plant in Lecco.
The facility, located in the heart of the EU’s rail infrastructure, will allow British Steel to meet the growing demand for long length rails throughout Italy, for which it has already provided considerable amounts.
The company already has a significant presence in Central Europe, employing 420 workers at its French rail mill at Hayange, while running its manufacturing operations in Scunthorpe, England. In addition to being a significant supplier for the British and French market, the company has also participated in major projects in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
